Welcome Message
Dear Patient,

As you read our fifth monthly newsletter, we’re still getting great feedback from our current and past patients. So if there’s an article you particularly like, please let us know.

Keep smiling!
Mike Hack

What’s New?

NEW DVDS TO WATCH. If you’re a patient with an upcoming appointment, we have a vast library of DVD movies for patients to watch. Some of our most popular movies are:

  • Comedy –– “The Freshman”
  • Drama –– “Breaker Morant” and “Gallipoli”
  • Music –– “Standing in The Shadows of Motown”
  • Sports — “When We Were Kings” (Muhammed Ali/George Foreman “Rumble In The Jungle” in Zaire)
  • TV — “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for shorter appointments.

A NEW EMPLOYEE. As many of you know, Elizabeth, one of our chair side assistants who had been with us for 13 years, left to start her own business in January. After much searching and multiple trials, we found Tevy Sophorn. Born in Cambodia, raised in California, Tevy is as hardworking and pleasant as one could be. We feel she fits well into our team and hope you who haven’t had a chance to meet her, will at some point soon.

A Success Story: CEREC®
The brochure calls it “One-Visit Dentistry” because CEREC offers our patients the convenience of only having a single appointment to create a precisely designed restoration right in our offices.
One of my patients recently scheduled an office visit to replace a filling that had cracked. He actually realized this when he was eating a Gummy Bear and the gold filling stuck to the candy.

In one 90-minute session, while he watched a movie of his choosing on DVD, I measured the crown to be replaced, precisely sculpted it on the CEREC machine using Computer Aided Design software to exactly fit his specified clinical needs, color-matched it to his other teeth, used our on-site milling machine to complete the restoration, and cemented the highly durable ceramic in place.

He said, “I’d heard about CEREC but had never experienced this procedure before. It was exactly as advertised. After a few novocaine shots to numb the area, Dr. Hack proceeded to replace my broken filling with a new CEREC tooth. This office visit was fast, painless, non-evasive, and I didn’t have to bite into those goopy impression trays. Best of all, Dr. Hack said that he now can’t tell which tooth had the CEREC because it’s a perfect match to my other teeth.”

Recommendation: Current Technology
The latest addition to our office is digital radiography (X-rays). Just like film photography has been replaced with digital photographs, we now can take X-rays without the use of film. There is, as in digital photography, a capture medium, sort of like the compact flash card. This is connected to a computer that realizes the image.

The advantages of this system are many, including: the X-rays are instantly available on a monitor; they can then be sent via the Internet to a specialist’s office or an insurance company; and the greatest advantage to you, the patient, is that there is between 50% and 80% less radiation exposure. They can also be printed onto a hard copy so they can be viewed and sent via that medium as well. We are making the transition and in time, all X-rays in our office will be in this format.
Offers
Lots of our patients are asking us about this popular offer. To brighten your teeth, take  advantage of our BRIGHT, WHITE OFFER –– Teeth Whitening for just $173 (normally $453).

And, as part of our “Refer A Friend” Program, if you refer someone to our office and they use our FREE WHITENING offer, they’ll pay just $367 for a comprehensive examination, cleaning, a complete set of X-rays, and FREE whitening (normally $453). That’s a savings of $200! And for referring someone, we’ll give you a Gift Card good for FREE WHITENING for yourself.

BOTH OFFERS EXPIRE AUGUST 31, 2009.

Dental Trivia
The correct answers to patient Gil Zeimer’s May/Junel Trivia Quiz regarding movies about famous dentists who had other careers were: 1) Cary Middlecoff (golf); 2) John Henry “Doc” Holliday, gunslinger and friend of Wyatt Earp (he and Dr. Hack both went to the same dental school, the University of Pennsylvania); and 4) Val Kilmer (who portrayed “Doc” in “Tombstone”).

The July Trivia contest focuses on questions on more famous dentists who had other careers:

  • Question #1: What California-born dentist made Olympic swimming pool history?
  • Question #2: What dentist once played football for the Oakland Raiders?
  • Question #3: What current high-scoring European soccer player was a dentist?

Congratulations to our May/June Gift Card winners: Annette K. and Matt D.

JULY TRIVIA QUESTIONS:
The first three responses to correctly answer these questions will receive a Starbucks Gift Card. Former winners are not eligible to participate.
